Stimulate the ovaries
Within a natural menstrual cycle, a number of ovarian follicles begin to develop. The coordinated actions of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) usually give rise to the production of only one mature egg each cycle.
A number of different medications can be used to stimulate the growth and development of eggs including clomiphene citrate or injectable gonadotropins (FSH/LH/HMG (which contains both FSH and LH)). Increasing the number of eggs available (ideally 2-4 eggs) often increases the chance of achieving pregnancy.
When patients are given these medications, it is important to monitor their response in terms of follicle development and hormone production. At RCC Fertility, a combination of ultrasounds and hormonal blood work is performed (at 2 locations) and this monitoring is available seven days a week. Such frequent monitoring allows your infertility treatment doctor to provide specific counseling on a daily basis and to make adjustments in the dosage of your medication as needed.
